Do not use a bigpond email address... ever.
Published: 18 January 2012.

Don’t use your bigpond email address… eg: RunawayOasis@bigpond.com … Don’t use your optus email address either… don’t even think about it. These addresses are NOT your property. They are being allocated to you by Bigpond or Optus. They are actually owned by BigPond (or Optus), not you. Which means if, for any reason, they shut the address down (such as you swapping to a different service provider) you don’t have a leg to stand on and you’ll have to redo all your marketing at your own expense and re-tell all the people you communicate with that you have a new email address, which is an absolute nightmare. I see it happen regularly. Don’t do it. Don’t get caught in this trap. Register a domain name for your complex. As a TPM member, we’ll do this for you absolutely free of charge. Then you can have your own email address such as info@runawayoasis.com.au. This email address is entirely your legal property. It is licensed by the Australian Domain Name Authority (AUNIC) to your ABN and nobody can take it away from you. Nobody. Therefore this is the address you should use for all communications from your complex. Many management rights brokers (all of them in fact) complain to us about the complexities of attempting to sell a Management Rights when the email address isn’t actually owned by the complex so please please please stop using bigpond and optus email addresses for your complex. If you need help getting a domain name, just let us know. We include this absolutely free for all members.
