ThePropertyManager.com.au now on Facebook

Published: 31 December 2007.

Intent on concluding 2007 on a positive note we are extremely excited to launch our new Facebook application: HouseMate. Developed entirely in-house, our ground-breaking application offers some impressive property search features to Facebook users.

The application automatically provides Facebook users with a list rentals in proximity to their physical location. Any rentals you post on ThePropertyManager.com.au are now included on Facebook, at no extra cost. HouseMate also enables Facebook users to publish their own rental listings onto our network and Facebook. Facebook users can also share any properties on our network with their friends on Facebook. When a Facebook user enquires about your listing you are provided with their public profile, allowing you to better qualify the suitability of prospective tenants.

Features currently in development for the next release of Housemate will allow Facebook users to set their profile as seeking accommodation and they will receive ongoing notifications of any new listings that match their requirements. If you have an idea for a feature you think would be useful please don’t hesitate to post it below.

Valued at over eight billion dollars, Facebook currently has over 57million active users (doubling every 6 months) who spend an average of 20 minutes a day on the site. Australians are the largest users of Facebook after the US, Canada and the UK. Our national Rental, Sharehouse and Student Housing databases are ideally suited to the 18-35 demographic which is Facebook’s most significant audience, so it’s a logical expansion strategy for ThePropertyManager.com.au. We plan to leverage our existing functionality against the highly viral nature and massive user-base of Facebook to drive traffic for our RUMs and increase response rates. Exploring the other applications rapidly being proliferated through Facebook, we’ve observed almost all of them offer absolutely no value to their users. In fact, Silicon Valley’s Valleywag has gone as far as to label them a “cornucopia of uselessness”. Despite this, over 80% of users have Facebook applications running! We’re confident that if we deliver a serious application that is useful to the users’ daily needs we can achieve unprecedented up-take and offer some serious competition to the mainstream property portals.
