Many onsite managers’ simply use their personal email addresses for their building email address. Eg: JohnSmith@BigPond.com

This is a bad idea for several reasons:

1. It’s your email address, not your building’s:
   When you sell the rights to your building you can’t sell the rental
   enquiry email address with it;
   
2. If you switch from Bigpond to another ISP you’ll have to change
   your email address on all your stationary, website, enquiry forms,
   listings, etc;
   
3. Your promoting Big Pond; a company that has nothing to do
   with your building or your management rights;
   
4. It’s a hard address to remember;
   
5. Its just plain unprofessional looking to your tenants and
   your owners

Here’s a couple of really easy solutions we’ve come up with to help:

1: Buy a domain name.

The domain name itself is reasonably cheap, we can arrange domain names for just $50 per year. You can have any name you like – eg: RiverTower.com.au and have as many email addresses as you want coming off this domain! Eg: Info(at)RiverTower.com.au maintenance(at)RiverTower.com.au ; rent(at)RiverTower.com.au ; etc; You also need a server to host your email from this domain name, email hosting is just $25 a month. This can all be written off as operating expenses and as it’s part of the building’s inventory the body corporate should cover these costs – effectively costing you nothing.
