Is your email costing you business?

Chances are is your email address is costing you business and time!

A costly mistake is made every time a new manager takes over an existing management rights business when he decides to use his own emails address for the new business.

Look at it this way would you buy an existing business yet keep the phone number from the previous business? What do all the people/ clients who have the old number do…? Well your probably thinking that’s stupid and your right but why do so many managers do this with their emails.

There will be many owners, tenants, clients and service providers that will need to be updated and many won’t be. If you think about that for a moment you should start realising how this can start costing you money and time.

There is a solution and its very cheap and 100% effective. All you do is register the buildings domain name not the company name. You may have a company name but that sticks with you the building name on the other hand doesn’t. So for example if you are managing a building called “SunnyView Apartments” than you would want to register a domain name like “www.sunnyviewapartments.com.au”. Then you can setup generic emails like manager@sunnyviewapartments.com.au or rentals@sunnyviewapartments.com.au and so on.

It is recommended that the body corporate registers the name in their ABN because technically it would belong to the unit owners of the building and is passed on to the new managers. This means when a new manager takes over the rights the body corporate simply hands over the email address(s) to that person.

Like registering a business name domain names are done in a similar fashion. A ABN and contact person is required. There are only so many names left so finding one that is suitable for the building may prove to be difficult.
